Rev. Don Ackerman, Pastor
Before coming to Crossroads in July 2019, Rev. Ackerman served at Church of the Lakes UMC and Canal Fulton UMC. He was an officer in the United States Army and served in the Middle East where he first felt a call to ministry. He is currently finishing his Masters degree at Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO).
Pastor Don’s stated purpose for his ministry is, “To bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people’s lives in a meaningful way that leads to the transformation of the heart, empowering them to be a mediator of God’s grace to all people.”
He and his wife Erin have three young children.
Jane Fleischer, Director of Caring Ministries
Prior to working at Crossroads, Jane retired as an engineer with Ameritech. Jane has served the church in many capacities over the years. Her knowledge of the church, its history and its people are a valuable assets that allows the church to have a caring and compassionate ministry with everyone.
Dr. Ivy Smith, Director of Multicultural Ministries
Dr. Smith received a Master’s degree in theological studies, a Master’s of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree in Church Administration all from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She received a BA degree in Mass Communication from Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach, FL; and, an Associate’s degree in English from Morristown College, Morristown, TN. Prior to pastoring Dr. Smith worked professionally for a law office and in government agencies.
Dr. Smith is married to David N.J. Smith, and together they have a daughter, Lydia Jo Smith. Her hobbies include gardening, line dancing, bike riding and trying new recipes.
Beth Polen, Director of Music Ministries
Joining the Crossroads staff in fall of 2014, Beth is also the choir director at Perry High School in Perry Township. In her 23rd year of teaching, she is responsible for directing the Bel Canto freshman girl's ensemble, Lyrics mixed choir, Symphonic Choir, the Perry Pipers show choir, Treblemakers women's pop and jazz vocal group and the Kinsmen men's chorus. Beth earned her Master of Music degree from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University and was a lifelong member of one of parent churches, the former St. Paul's UMC.
Christine Streb, Finance Administrator
Christine is a graduate of The University of Akron and has been with the church since 2007 Previously, she was an administrative assistant at the East Ohio Conference office working with Youth and Ethnic Ministries. She also works at Walsh University in North Canton. For financial questions about the church, contract Christine.
